And speaking of singers accompanied by pre-arranged instrumentation (something I know a little about), the feeling is sort of in the same ball park as the opinion stated in the previous paragraph. I have had folks complain about the way I present songs in that, even though I played all the instruments in the production of a song initially and programmed them (in real time) into a digital sequencer, the end result when performed was little more than glorified karaoke. I see their point but it is misplaced. I have to ask... "did it sound ok?" And if it did indeed sound good then.... is that not the point? As far as I'm concerned, I try to provide a product that is pleasing to the ear while also being fun to play.
We go to clubs and dance venues to be entertained, do we not? Does it sound good? Granted I would rather hear music that was at least performed by the artist who is being represented by the avatar occupying the stage and not by store-bought (or internet-downloaded)
FIRST WORD:
Unplugged vs Backing accompaniment
It takes all kinds. I've seen many many acts, both RL and SL and of every conceivable style and the one constant among all for me is that I can not stand and entire set of the same kind of music. That opinion is just my own and I realize that there are many who love to go to clubs or concerts and listen to nothing but blues, country, thrash metal, classical, jazz etc, depending on their mood. I guess I'm somewhat eclectic in that but I imagine there are those who feel sort of the same way. It is the same with me in terms of how the music is presented as well. I am fine with going to hear a performer stand up and play an acoustic guitar and sing for an hour in second life, but then the next show I want something different. I need the performer to be presenting a variation, another dish from the buffet, so to speak. Whether it be a solo piano performance, or a singer accompanied by pre-arranged instrumentation such as what I do, or a duet or live band streaming into SL. I just need it to be something different. Mix it up a little for me and I'm good to go.
